New Foo Fighters Drummer Announced

Josh Freese has been confirmed as the new drummer for rock band Foo Fighters.

The announcement was made during an exaggerated livestream via Veeps, titled “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts”, on Sunday evening, 21 May.

During a livestream section showing all the band members horsing around their Studio 606 rehearsing area, they teased who their new drummer would be. The mood then switches to a sitcom-style setting, with big-name drummers taking turns knocking on the studio’s front door.

First is Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, followed by Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee, then finally Danny Carey of Tool. All three try to impress the band with various outrageous acts, but ultimately a voice heard off-camera can be heard shouting, “Excuse me!”

The camera pans to the voice, revealing long-time and prolific session drummer, Josh Freese, seated and ready with drumsticks at hand, saying: “Can we play a song or something?”

The band’s former drummer, Taylor Hawkins, had featured on each of their albums since 1999, including their 2021 album, “Medicine at Midnight”. He passed away at the age of 50 in March 2022, from an accidental overdose while they were touring Colombia.

Foo Fighters’ upcoming album, “But Here We Are”, is expected to be released next Friday, 2 June.
